I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

Phase 1: Oerman-Roche

With pleasant temperatures and the sun going down, D, D2, and S met at the Oerman-Roche Trailhead for an evening walkabout. Lots of cyclists and joggers, but no birds or fauna of any kind, save for a cloud of tiny gnats who led us down the trail at head height, flying into our eyes, searching for truth. We could see them only due to the glorious sunset, which bathed the sky and the cow-pies equally in breathlessly golden light. On the return trip, under cover of darkness, a helicopter flew back and forth with some semblance of urgency (though how we could perceive anything in flight as urgent is anyone’s guess; a web search later identified the chopper as a Medevac flight).

Phase 2, 3: Coalton Trailhead

After the hike, we drove the short distance to the Coalton Trailhead, which has picnic tables and shelter, but no light. D2 and S shone their headlamps into their water bottles, creating a pleasant ambience despite the falling temperatures. Sandwiches all around. D2 noted that his Sunday baguette was a little past its prime. Aren’t we all.

Question of the Night

To whom is the Meadowlark Trail hilltop bench dedicated?
The bench has a placard with three names. We searched for these on the web, but found nothing. This will have to remain a mystery.
