Phase 1: Shanahan Ridge North

And suddenly the rain stopped, and summer arrived. 85ºF and no wind, S and D were thankful for the forest shade as they trudged up the Shanahan Ridge North trail, along with a plethora of other hikers. With this balmy weather, the parking was scarce and the trail was popular.

On the way down, we found a pond we hadn’t seen before—probably because it hadn’t rained this much before. So that made for a pleasant interlude en descente.

Decided to take the left fork, a somewhat steeper staircase descent, on the way down. This trail turned out to be rather muddy and rough, with paths on either side widening the actual trail, to avoid the mud.

Could have done with a breeze, but the hike was good nonetheless.

Phase 2, 3: That park on Yale.

Dogs barking at each other while their human companions tried to figure it out. S and D chomped sandwiches, bemused. Also googled stuff about whiskey, since there’s a new (?) Boulder distillery with $55 bottles of whiskey. Seems extravagant. They also have drive-up delivery, and tours of the place using “relaxed” covid protocol allowing groups of ten.
