Joder Wind

BNOSRJoder Ranch
Joder Wind
The clouds methought would open, and show riches
Ready to drop upon me; that, when I waked,
I cried to dream again.
— William Shakespeare, The Tempest

8 Feb 2024 Joder Ranch The weather was calm and sunny at Boulder Valley Ranch, where our fearless adventurers had planned their weekly perambulation.

But lo, unbeknownst to these intrepid explorers, the county had decided to improve the road. Which didn’t seem to need much improvement (it was passable, at least); admittedly, none of us is an expert on road maintenance, so ok fine. The construction crew built a short bypass around whatever they were doing, and this bypass was slippery and muddy. D zipped through it in his Mini, and S followed behind in the Outback, thankful for its traction control. And then they saw the sign.

“Parking Lot Closed. Violators will receive a Summons.”

There were other cars in the parking lot. Another guy arrived, loaded his kid into a stroller, and strode onto the trail. Hmm, the place seemed open.

But that sign…

So our intrepid and wise explorers opted for another venue: Joder Ranch, just a few miles up the road.

Thus they headed back around the muddy bypass, through the construction people with their “stop” and “slow” signs, and up the road to Joder.

Here they encountered the wind. It was as though January, a week gone from the calendar, still clutched at February with frosty, jealous claws; then again February has some pretty sharp claws of its own.

And so, due to the chilly conditions, our fearless adventurers relented after a couple of miles. It was enough. Good to get outside and talk about car sales, airline prices, the upcoming eclipse, with a little mud, a bit of ice, some sunshine. Other than that, not much to report: two or three humans, no dogs, no birds, no animals.

Oh well, life is full of slings and arrows, icy claws, winters of discontent. Best to go outside, with gore-tex and sweaters, hats and gloves, cheer and determination.

And there you have it, another successful BNO.
