Like a floating cloud, thinking to go east then wandering west, with time passing like a wheel rolling down from the top of a hill, twenty-five years went by.
— Kobayashi Issa

Phase 1: Davidson Mesa, 5pm

On a partly cloudy evening and 80-ish degrees, our troupe of five set forth upon Davidson Mesa, in a pilgrimage of sorts, to reach the US 36 scenic rest stop on the hill overlooking Boulder. Along the way, the usual population of fauna: redwing blackbirds, a horse, prairie dogs sounding alarums, dragonflies, meadowlarks, bike-commuters, joggers, clouds. As for the flora: thistle, prairie coneflowers, mullein, grass, clover, yucca, etc.

Our five this evening included C, C2, D2, D, and S. C2 drank a lot of water along the way, from a conveniently positioned and chewable platypus water tube. Thus was he well hydrated; perhaps more so than the rest of us.

I forgot to bring my phone, so no route for this trek; suffice to say that it’s flat, and roughly 3.5 miles.

A good view from the overpass, albeit noisy with passing traffic.

Phase 2, 3: Annette A. Brand Park

Picnic tables, a playground, slides, a sandbox, and brownies for dessert. Thanks to C for the brownies and suggestion of venues this evening.

We had some questions of the night, but guess what? Nobody could remember any of them: not nobody, not a one.

Afterward

On the way home I noticed that Harper Lake, along McCaslin, had some good reflections, so I stopped for a few minutes to walk through a voracious flock of geese and take some pictures.
